The Bogside Derry was originally under the River Foyle as it flowed around the Hill of Derry. It eventually became a stream, Mary Blue's Burn which flowed in the line of Rossville Street. The area on this western side of the hill became known as the Bogside.

The Bogside was a flashpoint for the civil rights movement and The Troubles which are documented by the open air gallery of murals of the Bogside Artists.

The long history of the Bogside is well told on the Free Derry Museum website. Please click here for the complete Bogside story.
